The government and the Ministry of Finance have spotted a real shortfall in the online gaming market. More than C$500 million has been spent by Ontarians , but since the Lottery and Gaming Company kept a monopoly with the Play OLG casino, most players headed to foreign platforms.

Doug Ford wants to take his piece of the pie and the solution has been to ask his government to create a gaming regulatory body , which will issue gaming licenses to companies that wish to operate on the internet in Ontario.

The AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario), will therefore have this mission, online casinos will obviously have to pay this license and taxes will be applied.

So the time of "illegal" online casinos is over in Ontario!

Torstar intends to seize the opportunity

The press group, which owns several daily newspapers in Ontario, such as the popular Toronto Star or The Hamilton Spectator, saw this market opening as a real investment opportunity.

In reality, Torstar was very recently purchased by a group of investors , Nordstar, this group wants that among this new regulated market, an Ontario company can become a major player.

Although hundreds of online casinos from abroad will apply for a gaming license from the AGCO, Torstar wants to invest enough money to become the leader online gambling in Ontario.

This online casino could benefit the region 100%, without having a monopoly, as OLG had. At the same time, this investment could mainly be used by the Torstar Group to develop journalism and propose "the growth and expansion of quality community journalism, as co-owner Paul Rivett pointed out.
